Bakersfield Man Left for Dead After Eight Gunshots, Suspect Arrested: Docs

A man in Bakersfield, California, believed he was being taken to see a newly purchased vehicle, but instead found himself shot eight times and abandoned in a field. Despite his severe injuries, he managed to reach a nearby home and call for help.

The victim identified Rogelio Alvarez, 59, as the shooter. Alvarez is currently charged with attempted murder and assault with a firearm. Held on $1 million bail, he has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday, as per court records.

The incident occurred on May 19 in a secluded area of Bakersfield. Due to the victim’s inability to provide an exact location, officers could not locate the crime scene.

The victim sustained the following injuries: three gunshot wounds to his left shoulder, two to his right shoulder, one to his face, one to his neck, and one to his upper back.

Alvarez admitted to being present at the scene but claimed an unknown assailant was responsible for the shooting. He stated he fled the scene out of fear, leaving the wounded man behind. Alvarez also mentioned that the victim had recently stolen from him, according to the court documents.

This incident underscores the severe consequences of trust betrayed and highlights ongoing issues of violence in the area. Authorities continue to investigate as the community seeks justice for the victim.
